keykI read a few chapters of The Extraordinary Adventures of Arsene Lupin by Maurice Leblanc, and DANG IT'S REALLY FUN. I got a few giggles from when Sherlock Holmes meets Arsene Lupin as Holmes was staring the poor guy down. Reading ebooks since the last time I went to a bookstore, they didn't have any Lupin books. I hope this translation I'm currently reading isn't bad...I mean, it flows well enough (minus a few typos here and there), but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good translation. At least it's understandable! We actually have an intimidating, gilded, large red book with five books of Sherlock Holmes inside of it, but it's still in shrink wrap, so I have yet to touch it. It's that kind of book you feel belongs in a mansion library! I feel like I'd need to wash my hands every time I flip a page lest I damage the pages with my finger oil!...I'm better off finding a paperback series for these...or more ebooks.
I totally blame this on my reading more Detective Conan. That thing is a mix of Inspector Gadget, maybe some Pink Panther even, what with the clumsy detectives and all, Sherlock Holmes, and Arsene Lupin (only for the Kaito KID chapters and the Magic Kaito series) plus light high school romance fluff. IT'S SO CUTE although it took awhile for me to like it. I love the retro art style! The anime theme songs are often made of such typical 90's pop-ness, it's amazing.
I look forward to reading more of Lupin and starting Sherlock Holmes when I finally have time to settle down and NOT read SCHOOL RELATED books (which are by no means BAD...well, the romance ones tend to be). I wish I had money to buy books. Those buggers are expensive! I could probably steal some dramatic lines from 'em if I ever make a demo reel, too, hehe. I did make a character with obvious influences from both sources (that's how I roll!), but, uh, here's to hoping he doesn't come off as a total Detective Conan rip-off, though he might. Oh, well!
Oh, yes; because I cannot say this enough, and it's fun to annoy her by repeating the same thing over and over again except this time I can use tacky visuals:
