Read some reviews for The Recipe for Gertrude. Apparently a lot of people don't like it for the art, lack of romance, pacing, clutter, and drop it by the end of the first volume. While I agree that it IS a cluttered manga with not so great pacing, I really don't mind it since I can still tell what's going on. I'm not one for loooong dragged ouuut stories (Houshin Engi suffered from this in the first few chapters). Besides, she improves the pacing and paneling (or at least I think she did) during later volumes, and the story gets really exciting. And the lack of romance? Hm. I like it better this way. It's not all mushy gushy, and it's just a slow progression of finding out "hey, I like you" without the cheesy "I LOVE YOU!! ;o;" scenes in it. I've already said I liked the art style. ^^; I don't know why people have such a problem with the faces. I prefer this style to HUGE UBER SHINY eyes in other shoujo titles, which can look a bit obnoxious. Her style is still obviously shoujo, kind of like how Kinoshita Sakura's style is shoujo-y. While the character designs aren't anything special, they match the modern-day setting they live in, and I can tell who is who pretty easily. From what I've read, I REALLY LIKE IT and I want to read more and buy it for myself (even IF the sound effects are uglified and the logo looks downright terrible). I'm not too interested in Two Flowers for the Dragon which looks like a typical shoujo manga, but The Palette of 12 Secret Colors seems really interesting concept-wise. I think Kusakawa Nari is going to be one of my favorite shoujo mangaka. :) I also found her art site here. Aah, her art has improved so much! So pretty~

I've been looking through other manga lately, too. Let's see...Kuroshitsuji and Pandora Hearts out of curiosity when Ruina mentioned them (they are AMAzing though), The Hour of the Mice (whoo, conspiracy theories!), Deadman Wonderland (could care less for the shounen fight scenes, but whoo, characters AND conspiracy theory!), Spice and Wolf (ECONOMICS *__*), Shiki (are you getting lazy, Fujiryu-sensei? What happened to the screentones? I get using real pictures for bg, but cigarettes, too? XDD;;; Not that it matters. I'LL ALWAYS LOVE YOUR STYLE, and lol, Natsuno+shovel+zombies XD; It's a very interesting take on a horror series. Everyone's so colorful, but it's STILL SUCH A DARK SERIES), and I'm still very much into Tactics. KANTAROOOUUU!!...I think I'm one of the few people not into it for the ghey. XDD; Eeee, Taisho Era and Japanese folklore! We need to make a stop to Singapore again to read Matantel Loki Ragnarok. I am also very amused by Hetalia. I kind of wish it had more WW events. I mean, Japan's kinda lacking his imperialistic days. ^^;; It's a thin line this mangaka's walking though, so I can't really blame him.
