Apr. 14th, 2010 10:10 pmMy school is planning to shut down our club on the basis of "our school has too many clubs." My foot! We HARDLY have ANY clubs. The club I'm a board member of has been here since the 90's and it's the ONLY recreational club we have. We have one of the highest participation rates of all the available clubs. We have a reputation for attracting freshman and letting freshman find their niche in this school--at least those that like sci-fi, games, video games, and anime. And they're trying to shut us down?!
The only other club that I know of that's getting the ax is a super-inactive club. It's an unfortunate club where the creator is paying for everything out of her own pocket, but the inactivity reason at least applies. (The club is going to get aid from a service-centered club though, thank God.) For us? Nuh-uh. There are other clubs that hardly get any attendance but are more academic so they're staying. What, recreation and common-interest clubs aren't worthy of being clubs? You must be joking.
My schedule is packed, but there is NO WAY I'm gonna let this club fall. This club was pretty much the whole reason that I even wanted to go to this school. Okay, sure, the board can be incompetent a lot of times, but the work does get done (albeit by the wrong peoplelike me orz). We use our OWN funds. All they gave us was a short, brief letter that told us basically: "hey, you're not gonna exist next year, bye"--no reasons, no explanation, no nothing. The heck?!
I'm going to fight against this. Definitely.
