I now have two volumes of WaqWaq thanks to my now-in-college friends I met in high school (I've actually read everything scanslated though, but I like it enough to say it warrants a purchase). They also gave me Murdock the turtle, haha! Now WaqWaq...hm, it's definitely one of Fujiryu's weaker titles, but I still like it better than most shounen manga. It does have a lot of typical SJ elements to it, and the ending feels like a rehash of Houshin Engi's, but I was captured by how he designed everything, from the "robots" to the setting to the villagers. Nothing felt too dragged out or overdone (but I do wish the characters had more development time), although that may just be because it got canceled early on. An SJ title where battles don't last whole volumes? FINALLY.

Plot-wise, it's simple. Red-blooded god, world full of people with black blood, offering red blood gives one the ability to have a wish granted, let the drama begin! All the nitty gritty and the reasons for it all all gets thrown at you in the face at the end, but, again, that's probably because of the little amount of time he had to pull it off. The characters are fairly typical, but none of them are grating, which is a plus for me. And while I say they're typical, they're the typical kinds of characters I happen to like, which, aside from the series' being done by Fujiryu, also adds to my bias. I also love how he makes fun of things. People may find it breaks the flow, but I think they're appropriately placed. I'd be making that face, too, in your situation. But he gets obviously lazy in the series. Seriously! Some action scenes that could easily take five pages take up. one. panel. Really, Fujiryu, really?

I would not like this series so much if it weren't for Fujiryu's execution (laziness aside, he has some really nice pages), art, and portrayal of the story and characters. His art just gives it an "ooh, this is different" feel (and I am obviously opinionated). I say give the first two volumes a spin and see if you like it from there. Most will definitely not like this series (it does get pretty low reviews), but I do! And, hey, my new mood theme is of WaqWaq (made by [livejournal.com profile] frappetique not me)! Yay!

Also, Zoroastrianism and its Amesha Spenta (THAT'S PRETTY CORRECT AND DONE WELL IMO) is made of win.

I promised my teacher that I'd do a JFK portrait by the end of semester break.
IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. OTL; I did rough draft versions though, so if he asks, I guess I'll have proof that I'm not dilly-dallying completely? My only excuse is that I wasn't in the mood, which...doesn't work, I'm sure. Ooh, I like how much more work these colleges are making me do. D| Good grief.

...Did it use to rain this often in CA?
And tornado warnings? Well that's certainly not the norm.
